I was a new (free) subscriber, got kinda intimidated by the format, left, but just came back again today.

Your brain is wonderful and weird. You can thank (minor deity) Mary Harrington for name-dropping you on her Substack for reminding me that this wild, wonderful Substack exists and deciding to give it another chance (I'll stick this time, promise).

This is pilleater. I study and research if anime is becoming real and replacing the arts with it. One day, the rom-com and the average couple will live like anime romance stories.

I’ve now met 2 people irl through the discord. Is that a (non-server host) record?

Howdy, I randomly stumbled upon you months ago while browsing Substack. I find your writing to be very entertaining, amusing, and oddly insightful. That and it helps maintain my faith in city-folk.

Down to clown with anyone acknowledging the worldwide identity crisis, though. Keep up the good work.

Heard about you on twitter years ago, probably through some heterodox or post-rationalist pipeline or other; more recently read a number of your essays and had been reading your posts from your substack occasionally for a few months before subscribing; always found your stuff unusually interesting and more fully human than normal for the internet.

Bridget Phetasy name dropped you about a week ago on one of her podcasts and I got curious. :)

I really enjoy your takes and appreciate you articulating my own experiences of growing up with the internet and fandoms as a millennial.

This Urbit 2022 Assembly talk is where I first discovered you. Great talk also saw you on Alex Kaschuta, Buck Johnson, Andy Nowicki, and of course Tucker Carlson. Keep up the great work! https://youtu.be/7g72HUbk_0Q

Subscribed a few months ago after seeing you on Tucker. Thought you had some really interesting tales that I totally agreed with. I was a late 90’s emo kid and seeing Thursday lyrics a few days ago really put the icing on the cake.

I think it was a Substack recommendation! Excited to read more. If you’re in retail, e-commerce, healthcare...or anything that Amazon touches (which leaves very little these days!), have a squizz at ‘What Did Amazon Do This Week?’ https://whatdidamazondothisweek.substack.com/about

No idea why I originally signed up. But I stay for the affirmation that I never want to be young again. Gnomic, I know. But at least *I* know what I mean

You first popped up on my radar a few months ago via my Spotify recommendations. They can be pretty hit or miss - luckily The Computer Room was a hit!

Then I realized last week that you have a Substack, so I went ahead and hit subscribe.

You've got a certain "je ne sais quoi" that's very appealing. Also, it's refreshing to hear someone talk about the online realm in a way that actually makes sense. I seem to be turning into someone's grandfather who just discovered AOL, so it's much appreciated.

I honestly can't remember what made me first aware of you, but it must have been about a year ago (I think that's when I subscribed). What I do recall is the distinct thought that your insights were unusual, not just in terms of their subject matter, but also the viewpoint.

At the risk of violating norms around modesty, I know that I'm a very good writer. However, I often find myself reaching the end of a piece and thinking, "This may be well-written, but it adds little to nothing to discourse around this topic." There are exceptions here and there, but most of my writing is more about personal enjoyment (or practice) than it is actually providing any kind of novel understanding.

By contrast, your writing is both skilled and aimed in directions I've never seen before. In all candor, some of your pieces aren't for me - I'm not "online" enough to have the context to connect with or understand some of your internet culture topics - but, whether they are or not, I can always tell that there's something sharp and penetrative at work. That's true even if you don't reach a conclusion, by the way: the *questions* you raise are just as useful.

Anyway, that's what drew me to your work and continues to bring me back.

I’m just another sap looking to learn how to navigate life, and relationships. I’m old enough that it’s not likely I’ll have enough time to learn all that’s needed to make me accomplished at it, but I’m not finished yet. You came onto my radar through a recommendation on another advice blog. Let’s learn something about living.

I think the fact that you actually tried to understand what was going on inside of Lanza’s head instead of just writing it off was probably what got me interested in your work.

This is something the media should be doing in the aftermath of these tragedies. Anyways...

You’ve been on my radar for a while and realized u disappeared from Twitter but then Delicious Tacos posted the podcast episode with u to his substack so it led me here. Also I’ve listened to almost every single Computer Room episode in the last 3 days lmao

No idea how I found you... actually... was it cracks in pomo? I’d been dipping into reactionary stuff, not that this is reactionary, but lots of hilarious, smart writing here. Thank you thank you.

And dating advice? I’m a 30-something homosexual male (spinster) in NYC, and I haven’t learned a thing. Right now all the action I get is with open couples. Hmm, maybe I am failing to create real connections to attract a relationship?! Idk!

Okay, overshare, probably. Thanks for doing cool stuff!

Substack tracking seems less than perfect. It’s hard to see where people come from some times. It helps if people use the share feature rather than just copying URL.

I’m not new but I listen to your podcast 😁.

I learned about you originally from Subversive Podcast, then when New Write was debating the term "Dissident Right", they argued that Default Friend is definitely part of this whole online right movement, but not part of the DR.

Hi! I miss our DMs on Twitter lol. I recently moved back to my hometown San Antonio, Texas, and hope to build a career as a writer, researcher, and new idea person, who hopefully can make my ideas actually matter in the real world. Lots more to chat about hopefully.
