i’d be interested in a follow up exploring the nourishing traditions/traditional foods/hormone support movement about women that’s going on right now

Great conversation. There's a spectrum of truth that these diets fall on. I do think that there's something true about the raw egg nationalism ideology -- becoming skeptical of the food processing that goes on is important to a degree. But taking it to the extreme won't really work for everyone. These fitness and wellness hawks rarely touch on how different bodies react to extreme diets. Even basic comparisons like the effects of eating meat only on women vs men. Intermittent fasting is another one... There's a bunch of research that shows that IF has mostly positive effects for men, and mostly negative for women. Men report boosts in energy, women only get the "I am starving" effect.

Still listening but wanted to pop in to say this is a really interesting episode! I was in my teen years a member of the teen girl dieting Xanga community around 2006-2008 and definitely remember ABC. I tried so many times to try and restrict and couldn’t (which in retrospect is a good thing right?)
